How To Get Library Books on Your Kindle
Did you know that you can read books from your local library on your eReader or tablet? Library books are free so why not take advantage of an opportunity to save money.
To borrow ebooks from your local library and read them on your Kindle, you’ll need to use a service like OverDrive (or Libby, its app) and link your library card to your Amazon account, then select “Read on Kindle” after borrowing a book.
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
1. Check if your library participates and offers Kindle books:
-
You can usually find this information on your library’s website or by contacting them directly.
2. Get a library card and PIN:
-
If you don’t already have a library card, get one from your local library and obtain your PIN.
3. Download the Libby app (or use the OverDrive website):
-
Download the Libby app (by OverDrive) on your mobile device (iOS, Android, or Kindle Fire).
-
Alternatively, you can use the OverDrive website on a computer or laptop.
4. Find your library and add your library card:
-
Open the Libby app or OverDrive website and select your library.
-
Enter your library card number and PIN.
5. Borrow an ebook:
-
Browse the library’s collection and find an ebook you want to borrow.
-
Click “Borrow” and choose a lending period.
6. Send the ebook to your Kindle:
-
In Libby, tap on the Actions menu, then “Read books with,” and select “Kindle”.
-
On the OverDrive website, you’ll see a “Read now with Kindle” button.
-
You’ll be taken to Amazon’s website.
-
If prompted, sign into your Amazon account (the one associated with your Kindle).
-
Click “Get Library Book”.
7. Check your Kindle:
-
As long as your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi, the borrowed ebook should appear on your Kindle’s home screen or in the “Library” section within a few seconds.
-
If it doesn’t appear immediately, try syncing your Kindle.
