I’m a tool junkie and a do it yourself guy. I’ve learned over the years that to do a good job you need knowhow and the right tool for the job. On this page I’m sharing some of my favorite tools I use to perform remodeling and make home repairs.
Painting
If you want to paint like a pro and get those super crisp lines, don’t fall for those gimicky gadgets. You only need a few quality brushes, some quality rollers and a few accessories. If you take care of your painting tools properly, they’ll last a long time and you’ll save money.
Tips:
- Get a brush comb to clean your paint brushes.
- Clean roller pans and brush buckets with soap and water and use them again and again.
- Profressional grade paint from Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore costs more but provides much better results than paint from big box stores.

Power Tools
The right tool can make all the difference. I’ve learned that spending a little more once can save me a lot of time and frustration. Cheap power tools usually don’t produce high quality results. If you buy quality tools and take care of them, they can last a very long time. Here’s some of my favorite power tools that I’ve used to remodel my home.

Trim Work
Nothing sets a home apart like fine finished trimwork. Installing trim can be tedious and frustrating but these tools made it much easier for me to get professional results.
Tips:
- Always lubricate your nail guns per the manufacturer’s recomendations.
- Periodically drain air compressor tanks to prevent interior rust.
- Use a stud finder to accurately shoot fewer nails in trim.
I’m a BIG fan of Metabo and Porter Cable nail guns. They’re priced affordably and produce excellent results.
