I struggled for a long time with my HP Victus’s slow wifi and dropped connections. I ended up having to keep my laptop plugged into an ethernet cable just to use it. One day, I stumbled across a fix. Since changing this one setting, my HP Victus Laptop’s wifi connection is fast and stable. Follow the instructions below to see how I fixed it! (this fix may work on other laptops too!)
Fix HP Victus Slow Wifi
Step 1: Use the keyboard shortcut “Windows + X” keyboard shortcut and select Device Manager.
Step 2: Once you’re in Device Manager select Network Adapters.
Step 3: Select your network adapter. Mine was the MediaTek MT7921.
Step 4: Select the Advanced Tab.
Step 5: Click on Prefered Band and select 2.4GHz Band or 5GHz Band depending on your wifi setup. The 2.4GHz Band option is a safe bet if you’re not sure what your wifi network capabilities and settings are.
I believe the laptop was constanty switching back and forth between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands causing the wifi to slow to a crawl and drop connection. This setting stops that from happening. Hopefully, this works for you too!
